Digital Learning Campus
Digital Learning Campus (DLC)
The Digital Learning Campus project is funded by the ERDF through several state-wide consortia in Schleswig-Holstein to develop learning spaces that are free, accessible, and easily reachable for all segments of society. These learning spaces focus primarily on digital development and education and are designed to prepare the entire society for the digital future.
The Duale Hochschule Schleswig-Holstein is represented in the EDIT Consortium (Experiential Spaces: Digital, Inclusive, Transformative) alongside various partners from within and outside universities in Kiel, and is developing Virtual and Augmented Reality applications in its work package for all segments of society, businesses, SMEs, and schools. In the first phase, the focus is particularly on raising awareness about using the technology and breaking down barriers to its use. In a second project phase, the applications will be refined to support specific social and business tasks in implementation, teaching, and learning.
During the first phase of the project, a long-term student project developed three offerings focused on the use of modern technology: a series of sessions designed to introduce and familiarize users with VR, an application to raise awareness about depression, and an application for digital fraud detection. These applications will be included in the official catalog of the Digital Learning Campus and are accessible via the DLC website. In addition to developing the applications, we were able to train several project members to become DLC trainers so that the offerings can be implemented in a methodologically and didactically consistent manner.
The Duale Hochschule Schleswig-Holstein collaborates in a consortium with Seeburg, the University Library, the Institute for Inclusive Education, and the Faculty of Engineering (all part of Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU)), the Technische Akademie Nord, the Förde VHS, and BUND. The consortium’s broad scope generates numerous synergies, which are regularly leveraged and are set to be further expanded. The EDIT consortium is led by Julia Eichhorn and Nina Schnoor from CAU. Communication within the consortium is supported by regular meetings held at various learning locations.
Across the state, six consortia are receiving a total of 38 million euros in funding from the European Union and the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The grant for the DHSH’s work package amounts to approximately 460,000 euros. Synergies across the consortia are addressed and leveraged through regular events organized by the DLC Hub, such as the Community Call and the DLC Tour.
The project has been underway since March 2025 and is funded through mid-2029. The Digital Learning Campus’s stated goal is for the learning spaces to continue to exist beyond the project’s conclusion and to contribute to lifelong learning. The Cooperative State University is setting up its mobile learning space with state-of-the-art equipment, including Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro headsets, in its coworking space and has developed protocols for booking, preparation, reconfiguration, hygiene, and replacement of modern technology, as the space is shared with the Wirtschaftsakademie.
The learning center at DHSH aims to become a go-to destination for all Kiel residents when it comes to raising awareness about the digital future. We are delighted to be part of the larger DLC family and to play an active role in shaping lifelong learning in Schleswig-Holstein.
