Nurturing Nature (NuNa)

The NuNa - Nurturing Nature project, funded by the EU as part of the Interreg 6A program, aims to develop a sustainable and regenerative tourism model for the Baltic Sea region in collaboration with partners from Germany and Denmark. The focus is on how tourism can not only be made sustainable, but also actively geared towards long-term benefits for nature, the climate, and local communities.

The Duale Hochschule Schleswig-Holstein, together with its partner university UCL (University College) in Odense, is responsible for developing a value compass, which is intended to stimulate and accompany the creation of regenerative tourism offers as a practical process guide. In addition, we are designing a training program for process facilitators that will enable them to conduct co-creation workshops at selected locations and develop new regenerative tourism offerings together with regional stakeholders. At the same time, we are actively involving our students in the process and promoting international exchange with Danish students in order to share and further develop knowledge, experiences, and proven approaches.

Concrete renewable tourism offerings are to be created at at least 12 locations in Schleswig-Holstein and southern Denmark—in collaboration with local residents, municipalities, businesses, nature conservation organizations, and tourism associations. An innovative marketing concept aims to inspire and motivate travelers to protect the places they visit and, moreover, to give something back to them.

The project will run for three years, from August 2025 to July 2028, and will receive approximately €1.35 million in funding.

The UNESCO Global Geopark Det Sydfynske Øhav is responsible for project management and coordinates cross-border cooperation as well as the content and strategic implementation of the project.
